The Limerick Leader has launched an online petition for the respite house run by the Brothers of Charity to be reopened.
Please show your support for the local families affected - and add your voice to the campaign for the return of respite services - by choosing one of the online symbols to show your solidarity with the families affected. Think of it as an online 'present' to families who will really appreciate your support and select the option 'Give A Virtual Present'.
You also have the option to leave a message of support, add a comment about this deeply worrying situation or upload a photograph showing the families you are with them.
The Leader believes the Government and the HSE must find the money - and urgently - to have the house reopened.
Our online campaign will be passed on to the HSE to show Limerick's dismay at treatment of some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
Thank you.

Report this message By owen south on 5th Oct 2010A meeting was heldlast Friday, October 1st with the Minister for Health, Mary Harney, TD, in Limerick to discuss the ongoing situation as regards the cutbacks in respite care in Limerick. The meeting was attended by respite campaigners, Sarah Hurley and her son John,Marie Hayes and Owen South. It was said to the minister that the situation as regards the respite closure could not continue and was now was the time to act and stop talking. The minister who was in attendance with two HSE officals promised us that she would look at the situation urgently and provide a quick response to us.At the meeting it was brought home in no uncertain terms that only she as Minister for Health can sort out this dreadful situation,Lets hope her actions in the next few weeks will help resolve the situation as regards the Clonile Respite Home in Caherdavin Closure
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUPPORT

Report this message By owen south on 23rd Aug 2010as of friday 20th august a respite house has been opened in limerick to replace the respite house in clonile.
Through fund raised money that the brothers of charity had"for a rainy day" it will be only opened at 40%..that is 3 out of every 7 days.
This is totally unacceptable and pressure must be put on the government and dept of health to restore the full respite service in limerick and also to allow the brothers of charity keep their money which was to be used for other deserving causes and activities within the organisation
PLEASE KEEP UP THE CAUSE TO RESTORE THE RESPITE HOUSE IN LIMERICK

Report this message By John Harold on 11th Jul 2010This so-called Government has wasted €25 billion on Anglo Irish Bank yet they are responsible for the withdrawal of funding for the respite centre, forcing its closure.
They are hurting the most vulnerable people throughout Ireland. I don't know how they can live with themselves
