God knew you were suffering

In tears we watched you sinking
We watched you fade away
Our hearts were nearly broken
You fought so hard to stay
But when we watched you sleeping so peaceful
Free from pain, we could not wish you back
To suffer that again
It broke our hearts to see you go
But you did not go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home

God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around you

With tearful eyes we watched you
We watched you fade away
Although we loved you dearly

A golden heart stopped beating

God broke our hearts to prove to us
